Background

The film is a unique documentation of parents, children and adolescents with cochlear implants, who recount and in various ways share their important experiences. We are introduced to children in their home environments as well as in pre-school. We also meet teenagers with cochlear implants in school and while they are engaged in various spare-time activities. Teenagers that convey experiences of what the implants mean to them in their every day lives. What is the significance of hearing with the aid of a cochlear implant?

We meet pre-school and school staff. What are their daily routines like with regards to their encounters and interaction with the children with cochlear implants, and how do these children interact with

other children? Who can go through the surgery, who may benefit from a cochlear implant, and what is the procedure of the medical inquiry, surgery, tuning-in and rehabilitation? Two smaller children are followed through this process along with their parents. Hospital staff describe the procedure from the first meeting with the physician to the exciting moment when the child is able to hear for the first time. The film takes you through the entire process.
